Guiding Good Choices Parenting Program

This parent enrichment program provides parents with knowledge and skills that have been proven successful in reducing the risk of their children becoming involved in drug use. The program is designed for parents of children between the ages of 8 to 13 years of age. It is offered free to Broward residents at various sites throughout the county. Guiding Good Choices (GGC) is comprised of five 2-hour sessions held over five consecutive weeks. Topics include:

Preventing substance abuse in your family
Setting clear family expectations regarding drugs and alcohol
Avoiding trouble
Managing family conflict
Strengthening family bonds


Guiding Good Choices has been judged a “Model Program” by the federal government's Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The United Way of Broward County Commission on Substance Abuse coordinates the delivery of this program in Broward County through a consortium of adult substance abuse providers licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families.
